Can what we wear change the world? Should we drag the mudslinging, foul-playing, unbalanced game of politics into our closets? Short Answer, HELL YES! Let's face it, fashion is part of our everyday life. Yet and still, we have a problem with being heard in America, especially if you were born brown or a woman. Many designers today are now using their platform to send a message of Peace and Equality. Many people feel that what happens at the white house should stay at the white house, but we as a people have been using our daily wear as "billboards" when our voices go unheard. If you don't believe me, look at NYFW 2017. There were so many political statements making a debut during NYFW it would make one's head spin! Jeremy Scott presented a t-shirt emblazoned with “OUR VOICE IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL PROTECT US.” Gurung featured a host of T-shirts bearing slogans like "Revolution has no borders," "I am an immigrant," "The future is female," "I am a Coretta" and "We will not be silenced." And designer Michelle Smith named her collection, “Fractured,” saying that the inspiration came from "Post elections feelings of defeat". It's so beautiful to see designers speak out through their art. I decided to take matters into my own hands and designed a T-shirt that speaks TO ME. Even though it garners a lot of attention and has far started hundreds of conversations ( and opinions) I stand by the message AND the look! I never paired a simple Tee with a satin skirt before...but you know what...I'm crazy so it just WORKED! It doesn't matter if you buy second-hand clothing like me or don nothing but designer threads, what you wear can speak just as loud as words...it's just up to you to make sure it's a message that speaks from your soul.
